Bike to a Fly-in

About this event

Join us on this great ride for lunch in Concrete and a tour of the Concrete Fly-in with food vendors and classic planes on a grass airfield in the scenic mountains.

Ride Classification

See Ride Classification aka "4Ts"

Tempo A/B (we will regroup periodically, and when the trail is dusty, it helps to space out a bit. Faster riders will generally move forward and get to the fly-in first, but this is a social ride, and we're working to stick together.)

Topo A - it's a rail trail with rail grades. Uphill most of the way there, but very gently. Downhill most of the way back.

Traffic A - note one spot where we have to use Route 20 to cross a bridge.

Terrain C/D - This is almost entirely "C" terrain.Tthere is no single-track, but there are a couple of places where the trail maintenance has really fallen off. Some riders may walk these short stretches. See below for more detail.

Up the Cascade Trail

This year, we're doing one group up the Cascade Trail from Sedro-Woolley. Meet at the parking lot at Fruitdale Rd and Route 20 at 9 a.m. for a 9:15 a.m. departure.

The ride is a gently sloping up-hill rail trail generally away from traffic. NOTE: there is one spot where crossing water requires us to detour on to Route 20 for a few hundred feet because the Cascade Trail bridge in that spot is busted.

The trail also has a few other maintenance issues here and there. This isn't a technical ride, but there might be a stretch or two where some riders might feel more comfortable walking. These are spots where the trail has suffered some water damage, so are rocky and sandy which is more challenging on a bike. The sections are no more than a few hundred yards long, and there are only a couple of them.

The Fly-in

Check the link to the Fly-in - it's pretty cool. Lots of neat old planes. We wander around the airfield looking for things to eat and checking out planes. Some riders head to Concrete cafes for lunch. We regroup and then ride back down the trail.
